Cora Vets is excited to offer a Surgical Internship at our state-of-the-art referral centre for advanced small animal care. This is a 12-month training position designed for motivated veterinary graduates seeking to develop their skills in small animal surgery, anaesthesia, peri-operative care and advanced imaging.

You will work under the direct supervision of:

  • Dr Stephen Martin, Board-Certified Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (EBVS recognised)
  • A highly experienced specialist nursing and referral team 

Training & Development

This internship is designed to provide:

  • Structured exposure to complex and referral-level surgical cases
  • Close mentorship in clinical decision-making and peri-operative care
  • Experience in case coordination and hospital workflow management
  • A strong platform for those considering residency or advanced clinical pathways
  • Interns will be supported to pursue and prepare a manuscript or publication on a research topic of their own choosing, with a view to submission of same within their intern year.

The role:

This internship offers a unique blend of:

  • Surgical case exposure
  • Hands-on anaesthesia and peri-operative support
  • Administrative and case coordination responsibilities
  • Training-focused mentorship

You will play a key role in:

  • Supporting surgical procedures (including complex and cardiac-related cases)
  • Assisting with anaesthetic planning and monitoring
  • Coordinating patient workflows and advanced imaging
  • Supporting post-operative care and inpatient management
  • Liaising between surgeons, nurses, and the wider clinical team

Who should apply?

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have ≥1-year postgraduate experience, or
  • Have completed a rotating internship
  • Have a strong interest in surgical specialisation
  • Are highly organised, proactive, and team-oriented
  • Thrive in a busy referral environment
