Veterinary Nurse - Emergency and Critical Care

Dublin, Ireland Temporary
Compensation: €22 to €26 Hourly

Are you a Veterinary Nurse looking for a short-term role in emergency and out-of-hours care?
Pet Emergency Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Nurse to join our team on an initial three-month fixed-term contract, starting 1st July. This role will provide cover within our permanent nursing rota while one of our team members is on leave.

This would suit a confident Veterinary Nurse who enjoys emergency and inpatient care, working as part of a supportive team, and using their clinical skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.


About the Role
As a Veterinary Nurse, you will work closely with our experienced ECC vets and a supportive team to provide exemplary clinical care and client service. This role involves:

  • Triage patients on arrival and attend to each patient in order of clinical need
  • Obtaining diagnostic tests including but not limited to: Electrocardiography and blood pressure measurement, Capnography and Sp02, Thoracic and abdominal radiography, Biochemistry, haematology, blood gas analysis, coagulation tests, Blood smears, Urinalysis
  • Provide a high level of nursing care to critical hospitalised in-patients
  • Maintaining thorough case records and ensuring compliance with hospital systems, processes and policies.
  • Communicating effectively with pet owners and referring practices, offering clear updates and compassionate guidance.
  • Carrying out all duties in accordance with PEH’s published clinical and behavioural standards, i.e. a commitment to excellence in clinical care, client service, teamwork and collaboration, planning and organisation, and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate with:

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse in Ireland (Essential)
  • At least 3 years of experience in small practice is essential with some emergency care experience preferred
  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine.
  • Outstanding communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.
  • A passion for learning and continuous improvement.

What We Offer

  • A flexible 4 week rolling rota pattern - no more than 3 nights in a row, with a mix of evening, overnight and weekend day shifts and a week off every month
